Hong Kong Operation Robot

The Hong Kong Space Robotics and Energy Centre focuses on space technology development. It will facilitate international collaboration for the Chang’E-8 mission, a mission that will be a critical step toward building the International Lunar Research Station (ILRS). Hong Kong, Mainland, and overseas institutions will jointly conduct technological research and develop the mission’s Hong Kong Operation Robot— A Multifunctional Lunar Surface and Mobile Charging System, marking the first time a Hong Kong-led team is responsible for developing a core scientific payload for a lunar mission.

This project not only represents a significant technological achievement for Hong Kong, but also reflects a broader vision: to integrate Hong Kong’s strengths into the nation’s long-term deep space exploration efforts and to demonstrate Hong Kong’s ability to lead in world-class, frontier science and engineering missions.

The centre showcases how Hong Kong, under the framework of “One Country, Two Systems”, contributes actively to national science and technology development while positioning itself as an international innovation hub.
