Pioneering Regenerative Medicine for Next-Gen Human Health Solutions

Regenerative medicine is rapidly evolving in the fields of biomedicine and health research with the aim of finding new ways to promote self-healing and regeneration of the body using stem cells to build new tissues and organs for restorative treatment of damaged cells, tissues and organs. Expectations for progress in the field and its robust clinical application are high, and there is an increasing recognition that cell-based therapy may play an important role in offsetting age-related diseases.

With this in mind, the Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Health (CRMH) is looking to apply ground-breaking methods to find cures for some of the world’s most chronic fatal diseases such as cancer, and develop new and innovative therapeutics for the world’s growing elderly population. CRMH aims to develop a robust research platform encompassing basic stem cell biology as well as translational sciences, ultimately developing next generation solutions for human health.

Advancing Chinese Academy of Sciences' efforts in trailblazing medical research in regenerative medicine, CRMH is leveraging Hong Kong’ s various capabilities and advantages in biomedical sector to set up “Hong Kong standards” for clinical applications of regenerative medicine, including “Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)” for products that will be accredited and recognised internationally.

In its first five years of work, with the aim to promote the globalization of the research and achievements in regenerative medicine, CRMH will focus on the following areas:

  • Stem cell therapy and genomic editing
  • Developmental biology
  • Drug discovery

In the long run, CRMH is looking forward to fostering regional collaborations in biomedicine and health through China’s Belt and Road Initiative and advancing biomedical research and development to solve key problems in public health in the Greater Bay Area.
